I do not remember a time when Denise was not in my life. We have been friends since I was almost 7 years old, and we were in the first grade at Central Park Elementary. When my family moved to Syracuse, NY at the end of 4th grade, Denise was one of only a couple of people that kept in touch through adulthood (Crystal was the other). For us at the time, we may as well have lived on completely opposite ends of the earth, not a mere 4 1/2 hours away. Despite the obstacle of distance, keeping up on our letter writing to each other was pretty impressive for a couple of pre-teens. I always cherished the letters and cards I received, and I still have most of them. I was fortunate to visit Denise (and Crystal) a few times over the years. I have many wonderful memories to cherish.
I do not know Deni as a nurse, but I am not surprised by all the comments about her being dedicated to the care of others. She was always compassionate, caring and full of empathy when we were young and throughout her life. I do know she was an amazing mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend. I always thought we had plenty of time to see each other again. Now that I am retired and my family responsibilities have lessened, I was planning on more visits to Montreal. I hoped to visit this summer on my way through to a visit with Crystal in PEI. Instead, I am now thankful for all the memories I have, including the photos I can look at and the letters I can read. I am so very fortunate to have had Deni in my life as long as I did.
My deepest condolences to Tony, Bobby and Maria and all of her family and friends. We all should have much more time with her. My wish is that their memories will help them through their grief in the days ahead and bring them more smiles than sad tears in time.
I will love and miss you always, my dear friend.

My family and I are sending our deepest condolences at this very sad time. I remember meeting Denise and Tony at our prenatal class at St. Mary’s and having our boys one day apart. Denise was always so positive and kind. We met at our Pediatrician office and then at birthday parties and swimming at Pointe Claire. She was my colleague for more than seven years and a truly wonderful person. She was there for me when I needed help for my son, and I will always be grateful for her kindness and support. I was deeply saddened by the news of Denise’s passing. No words can describe the loss of your beautiful Denise. I had the privilege of working with her in the medical clinics at the Glen since 2015. I never met Denise in person, it was always through phone calls. She was the Nurse Clinician for the doctor I see at the hospital. I will always be grateful for Denise. She was salt to the earth. Her voice and sweet demeanour were always so soothing, so heart warming and helped me stay calm even when I was afraid. She had a way even through the phone. She will be missed be even those of us who never met her but felt her kindness and warmth. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. Rest in Peace Denise.

I had the great priviledge to work in the complex care clinic at the the Royal Victoria Hospital with Denise for many years. Denise was the heart of the clinic. Her gentle demenor and intelligence made everyone feel listened to and helped from clinical administrators to to doctors and especially to our patients. The news of Denise’s passing has left us devastated, and we can only imagine the immense pain and emptiness you’re feeling right now. She was a truly remarkable woman whose warmth, laughter, and boundless love touched everyone around her, and losing her feels impossible to accept.
Back in high school, I remember Denise was that radiant, joyful young woman whose yearbook picture I kept captured her essence perfectly—a happy, energetic soul full of life, with a love for friends, sports, U2’s “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” and simple pleasures like hanging out at Swenson’s. She was involved in everything: grad committees, dance committees, and just being there for the people around her. Those were the days of laughter and dreams about the future. She touched so many lives even then, and her spirit was unforgettable.
After high school, Denise went on to become a dedicated nurse —a calling that suited her caring, compassionate nature perfectly. She spent her career saving so many lives, comforting patients in their most vulnerable moments, and bringing strength and kindness to everyone she cared for. Her work was a true reflection of who she was: someone who gave selflessly, who made a real difference every single day, and who left the world better because of her presence.
When we both had kids, fate brought us back together at Stuart Hall in the mid-2000s. It was such a gift to reconnect as parents, meeting at soccer, hockey, and swimming events. We spent so many happy hours together through sports: cheering from the sidelines at hockey games, and attending soccer tournaments. Those afternoons were filled with encouragement and the pure joy of watching our children grow and form their own friendships. Denise’s warmth made every moment special; she had this way of making everyone feel included and loved.
Life is so precious, so fragile, and Denise’s passing reminds us to treasure every connection, every laugh, and every shared adventure. We can’t turn back time, but the memories of those high school days, her inspiring work as a nurse, and the family moments we created later will always live on. This yearbook picture I kept of her as a young adult—smiling, full of promise—will forever remind us of the incredible person she was and the good times we shared.
Our hearts go out to her devoted husband Tony, her children Bobby and Maria, and all who loved her dearly. Denise, you lived long in our hearts, flew high with your spirit, saved countless lives through your nursing career, and gave so many smiles along the way. Rest in peace, dear friend—you will be deeply missed.

Dear Tony, Robert and Maria:
I worked with Denise in the General Internal Medicine Clinic at the Royal Victoria Hospital for about 10 years. As you probably knew, Denise was not only the glue and point person for her family, she was that for the clinic as well. She was smart, kind, full of common sense, and always had a "can do" spirit. I often went to her to get her advice for how to manage various patients. We were so lucky to have her. We will miss her terribly, although I'm sure not as much as all of you will. Our sincere condolences to you. I feel like I just saw Denise walking Ruby....we would laugh over our goofy dogs and how much joy they provide. She was so kind, sincere and a lovely, lovely mom and friend. Sending hugs to you all . Xo
