I remember Aunt Hilda taking me out to see her chickens and to collect eggs. I remember walking her land, with my mother, to see the wild flowers. I remember her going downstairs to fetch a can of maple syrup for me as I was leaving. I remember her hugs. I will miss my Aunt Hilda. Sherry Kennedy (nee: MacLean).

To all of Aunt HIlda's family We join with you in mourning the loss of our wonderful Aunt Hilda and wish we could be there with you today to honour her and help send her on her way. Hilda was a force of nature. It was always incredible to witness how she managed that farm and held everything together. She had to develop a tough skin to weather all the storms, but her heart and inner nature was soft and vulnerable. Hilda was always so very good to me. Any time I visited she welcomed me with open arms and big smiles, always encouraging me to stay longer. And insisting I enjoy some of her incredible baked goods and cooking. I particularly remember her wonderful tea biscuits and bread. Something was always on the stove and smelling great. I also so enjoyed sitting in her warm kitchen and watching the parade of birds at her multiple feeders. She, like Grannie Kelly, had a passion for the birds and they clearly loved her too. All of us, Ron Kelly's kids, loved visiting the farm at Hilda's. There were so many great places to explore. It felt like so many new adventures to be had there. I remember the tree house in the back yard too. That was a definite attraction. For sure, I have fond memories of seeing Hilda and family women and friends quilting and making those wonderful works of art. I always thought my mother joined in but she told me recently that she kept cutting herself with the needles and would bleed all over the quilts so she had to quit. She joined in in other ways to be part of that community of women supporting each other and sharing stories of their lives. Mom and Hilda were always good friends and relied on each other for friendship and solidarity back there in Avoca. They both worked so hard with their families and that friendship was vital to their well being and health. Rest well Hilda. You have earned your rest and peace. We will all miss you. My sincere sympathies to Aunt Hildas immediate family and condolences to all of her siblings. I have many fond memories of her as a child. Her work ethic was obvious to me as a child and her kindness, fortitude and loving nature. May she rest in peace. Karen Kelly Ohlmann

I am so very sorry to hear that we lost our beloved Hilda. Janice and I grew up together so I was often at Hilda and Cecil's house. Hilda was always so kind and generous. She was a wonderful cook, seamstress and gardener. She was part of the fabric of Avoca and will be greatly missed. My sincerest condolences to the family.

My sweet Hilda , you have been a very important part of my life and there is a special part in my heart for you. My sincere sympathies to my girls Valerie and Jennifer , to Edie, Allen and Harvey and to all the family . She was an exceptional grandmother as well and I know that all her grandkids will miss her terribly . Special memories of Hilda that comes to my mind are ; Her famous chocolate cake, her incredible quilts , her wedding cakes that she used to bake and decorate with aunt Grace, her garden that was so much work but that she loved, her birds she loved her bird but she use to get so mad at the Blue Jays that ate the food of the chickidees. Our pizza nights when she was at the home in Chute a Blondeau, and so many more memories . RIP Hilda it is now your time to rest . ❤️

RIP Aunt Hilda. I was always in awe of you and how you could handle running a big farm and raise your children, sometimes with Uncle Cecil working away from home. I would only see you briefly each summer, when we would go to visit Grandma Young, but I remember your kindness and soft spoken ways. You had your hands full and could still whip up a batch of pies in no time. The last time I remember seeing you, as we left to go back to Niagara Falls, you were holding baby Harvey in your arms. While I remember Edie and Allan being quite young, my playmates were Janice and Eddie. I envied them so much. Janice and I use to wish we could trade places for a year. I loved the farm so much. Thank you for the memories! My sincerest condolences to her family members.
